In the heart of Europe - Romania. The state system is not yet able to provide the financial means necessary to provide every child with the books and other school materials that they need. This makes it difficult or impossible for poor families with many children to give their children the essentials that they need for school. The facilities at the new school and the Children's Village in Dorohoi, both of which are free of charge to children, will enable up to 250 children to enjoy a future-oriented, healthy education.
"With these projects, we want to make an active and long-lasting contribution to improving the educational opportunities in disadvantaged countries," says Annette Fuchs, "and therefore increase the chances of a self-determined and free life."
Current situation
Building work is underway for the school building, including a large kitchen and dining hall, in one of the most remote corners of Romania. The "official opening" is scheduled to take place at the end of August 2008. In the first instance, 250 children will attend school here.
The German Ambassador traveled from Bucharest. Romanian officials from various ministries, local government representatives and friends and supporters from Germany all came to a celebration to mark the building of the school on 22 May 2008.
In 2008 the contributions and donations from Berlitz enabled the following project milestone to be achieved:
The purchase and servicing of the heating system in the school building. Also the Berlitz Team held a holiday camp there on-site.
